The Outcome

The creation of the Ostend Manifesto not only had a huge impact on the United States, but also on the entire political world. The Ostend Manifesto was the first of its kind to suggest the idea of conflict and war should Spain refuse its offer at gaining a territory, using the excuse that not complying to the deal would be considered an endangerment of the American Interest.

Aside from that though, the Ostend Manifesto would further contribute to the waning unity between the North and South of America. It would become an excuse by the North to defend the Republican Party, and would be held against the South and the Democrats for performing such action without the consent of the entire country. And it would be considered by some as an act against the North and their anti-slavery views. All in all, the Ostend Manifesto was yet another stepping stone in American history that would eventually lead to the worst war in American history: the American Civil War.
